25-27 Auburn Avenue

Architect on Record: Karen Gravel

Project Architect: Olivia Hallquist

Architectural Designer: Sophia Mack

Built in two stages, in 1907 and 1922, 25-27 Auburn Avenue was built as a telephone exchange by the Southern Bell Company. The 1907 portion is steel-framed, while the 1922 portion is supported by reinforced concrete. Bought by Georgia State University, the building has become a $30 million renovation project to house the Student Success Center.

As shown here, the entry area became a focal point of the design. With the pre-existing half-level, accessibility became a major design consideration. Due to the nature of the project, old and new materials were combined to create a cohesive interior look. This allowed for many interesting interior details.
